The pandemic will not change the bans on heavy goods vehicles in December, at a time of major holidays and the most intense traffic during the year. Below is a list of restrictions that will apply in December and early January 2021.

During this time, many European countries are choosing to introduce additional restrictions on heavy goods vehicles due to increased traffic. We tell you exactly where and when the bans will apply.
It is worth noting at the outset that the French authorities have decided to temporarily suspend the weekend bans on parcel transport vehicles. Empty returns are also permitted at the end of such delivery. The order entered into force on 28 November and will last until the end of the year.

Austria
The ban applies from 0:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. The ban applies to vehicles with a GVW (hereafter: gross vehicle weight) over 7.5 t, and articulated vehicles with a DMC over 3.5 t.
Liechtenstein
In Liechtenstein, the ban applies from 0:00 to 24 hours and applies to heavy goods vehicles with a DMC of more than 3.5 tones and sets with a GVW of more than 5 tones.
Italy
From 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restrictions apply to vehicles with a GVW of more than 7.5 t carrying out transport operations within Italy, that is to say, until the announcement of further ordinances by the Italian Minister of Transport, international transport is exempt from traffic bans due to the need to ensure the continuity of supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic.
24 December (Christmas Eve)
Croatia
In Croatia, on Christmas Eve, restrictions apply from 15:00 to 23:00. The ban applies to all vehicles and sets with a GVW over 7.5 t on the following roads and towns:
– D 8 – (intersection D8/D40 in Bakar) – Zadar – Split – Klek (border with Bosnia and Hercegovina) – Zaton Doli (border with Bosnia and Hercegovina) – Dubrovnik – Karasovići (border with Montenegro). Exception: from intersection with D27 at Šibenik bridge to the eastern entrance to Šibenik, from the Bilice roundabout in Solin to the intersection with trade-transport terminal in Stobreč
– D 9 – Metković – Opuzen – intersection D9/D8
– D 21 – Kaštel (border with Slovenia) – Buje – Kanfanar. Exception: section between Kanfanar interchange to Pula (junction D21/D66)

Restrictions apply to vehicles over 7.5 t GVW.
Slovakia
From 0:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. The bans apply to heavy goods vehicles and convoys with a GVW of over 7.5 t.
Hungary
From 10 p.m. to midnight. The ban applies to the movement of lorries with trailers with a GVW of more than 7.5 t, except for vehicles with an exhaust emission class of not less than EURO-3 involved in international transport.
25 December (Christmas)
Austria
In Austria, the restrictions on the first day of the holiday will apply from 0:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. The traffic ban covers tractors with trailers with a GVW of more than 3.5 t and articulated vehicles with a DMC of more than 7.5 t.
Croatia
From 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., the same restrictions apply as the day before.
Czech Republic
From 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. The ban applies to heavy goods vehicles and combinations over 7.5 t.
France
From 0:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. Restrictions apply to vehicles with GVW over 7.5 t.
Liechtenstein
A 24-hour ban. The restrictions apply to vehicles with a GVW above 7.5 t.
Luxembourg
In the direction of France and Germany: from 0:00 to 21:45. The restrictions apply to vehicles with a GVW above 7.5 t.
Germany
From 0:00 to 22:00. The ban applies to vehicles with a GVW over 7.5 tons and trucks with trailers. The ban applies only in the following federal states: Bayern, Brandenburg, Hessen, Sachsen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Berlin, Saarland and Bremen.
Poland
From 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The ban applies to heavy goods vehicles with a DMC over 12 t.
Slovakia
From 0:00 to 22nd.
Slovenia
From 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. The ban applies to heavy goods vehicles and sets with a DMC of over 7.5 tones and applies to main roads and motorways, which are detailed in the Bans for Trucks application.
Switzerland
A 24-hour ban. The bans include trucks with a GVW above 3.5 t.
Hungary
A 24-hour ban. This ban applies to the movement of heavy goods vehicles with trailers with a GVW of more than 7.5 tones except for vehicles with an exhaust emission class of not less than EURO-3 involved in international transport.
